IL Rt. 7 Bridge project will require closure
Of Bridge from Lockport to Romeoville for four months
Separate detour routes will be established for cars and trucks
SCHAUMBURG – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that starting on May 5, weather permitting, the IL Rt. 7 Bridge between Lockport and Romeoville will be closed in both directions for a resurfacing project until the end of August.
IDOT will establish two marked detour routes during the closure, one for cars and one for trucks.
The detour for cars will be south via IL Rt. 171 and IL Rt. 53 through Joliet; the detour for trucks will be to the north, via IL Rt. 171 and IL Rt. 53 to 135th St.
Vehicles that are less than 13 feet, four inches in height will be able to use the detour for cars; vehicles more than 13 feet, four inches will be required to take the truck route. This is because there are several viaducts that the detour route takes through Joliet that are only 13 feet, four inches.
The closure of IL Rt. 7 will extend from Canal St. on the east side to 9th St. on the west side. Only local traffic will be permitted west of IL Rt. 171 and east of IL Rt. 53 on Rt. 7.
The purpose of the project is to resurface and rehabilitate the approximately half mile long bridge. The project will extend the life of the bridge and delay the need for a costly reconstruction project.
The contractor for the $1.9 million project is Albin Carlson & Co.
