The Department issues one year renewable leases for it's property, and properties under its jurisdiction, for mineral (coal-oil-gas) exploration and unitization purposes as explained below.

A lease may be issued upon request and after the department has an opportunity to verify that the leasing will not adversely effect the adjacent public highway facilities. Upon submittal of a property legal description and request, the department will review and advise whether the property may be leased. Specific language dealing with restrictions and conditions can be examined in the lease available below, however the main restrictions deal with guarantees that surface disruption (subsidence) will not be a factor nor will access be allowed in most cases directly from the highway facility to the area leased. The current lease rate is $15.00 per acre, per year, with a minimum of $15.00 being required. Standard royalty rates will also apply.
