Welcome to the U.S. Route 45 Reconstruction Website

This site will provide useful information throughout the reconstruction process, as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is committed to keeping you informed with up-to-date information on the U.S. Route 45 project.

Project Overview

In December 2008, The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an $11 million highway improvement for U.S. Route 45 in Grayslake, IL. The project will add two lanes in each direction and a turn lane at various intersections of U.S. Route 45 from Route 137 to Route 120. Additionally, the project will also improve the safety of the roadway by installing a raised barrier median and updating traffic signals as well.

Over 20,000 vehicles per day travel along U.S. Route 45 in central Lake County.

Weather permitting, the project will begin in July of 2009 and is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2010.
